# Can Emolysis read from SQL Server or PostgreSQL?

> PostgreSQL is in development as a source and SQL Server is planned: Emolysis reads from them, lands the data on your platform and never deploys to them.

PostgreSQL is in development as a source, tested against local PostgreSQL servers; SQL Server is planned, with no date yet. Emolysis reads from [SQL Server](https://emolysis.com/platforms/sql-server) and [PostgreSQL](https://emolysis.com/platforms/postgresql) and never deploys to them. Their data lands in bronze tables on your production platform through the [Ingest (batch)](https://emolysis.com/shapes/ingest-batch), [Incremental append](https://emolysis.com/shapes/incremental-append) and [CDC merge](https://emolysis.com/shapes/cdc-merge) shapes.

Each source has a profile like the platforms do: its dialect, the types that need care, the change capture options it offers and how sign-in works. For development, Emolysis samples a slice of the source into DuckDB on your machine so the golden tests can run locally.

The [platforms page](https://emolysis.com/platforms) shows the role of each platform: target, source or local engine.
