# What is a platform profile?

> A platform profile describes a data platform for the agent, which loads it when you connect a workspace and writes code the way that platform expects.

A platform profile is a structured description of a data platform that the agent loads the moment you connect a workspace. It records the platform's SQL dialect and languages, its table format, how it merges changes, its incremental tools, its deployment unit, its compute options, how sign-in works, its known traps and how to sample data from it.

With the profile loaded, the agent writes code the way that platform expects, and only that platform's templates are offered. Every generated file is tagged with its platform and profile version.

Platform awareness comes from data the agent reads, not from guesses in a prompt. The [platform profiles docs](https://emolysis.com/docs/platform-profiles) go through each field, and the [platforms page](https://emolysis.com/platforms) shows what each platform's profile covers.
